an excellent benefits package.Position SummaryUnder the supervision
of the Engineering Supervisor, Engineering Manager, and Engineering
Director, the Associate Engineer is responsible for developing
designs, plans, and cost estimates associated with distribution
system additions, replacements, and retirements. The Associate
Engineer is expected to implement safety considerations in design
and ensure compliance to safety standards and SJW policy in the
field.Specific Responsibilities
- Perform various tasks such as linear infrastructure designs
associated with water mains, as well as infrastructure designs
within stations.
- Provide sound engineering decisions related to the design,
construction, and retirement of distribution system assets and
systems.
- Requires interdisciplinary teamwork involving contractors,
consultants, and other personnel within and outside the
Company.
- Design potable water, raw water, and recycled water main
extensions, replacements, and retirements.
- Use AutoCAD software and GIS programs for project plans and
exhibits; prepare detailed construction cost estimates.
- Review design-build plans for compliance with regulations and
standards; prepare, submit, and secure permits.
- Provide technical evaluations of project plans developed by
outside agencies, contractors, consultants, and internal
technicians and engineers.
- Improve safety by implementing engineering controls in design;
assist in the training and mentoring of staff.
- Prepare construction bid documents and addenda.
- Assist in the updating of standard drawings and
specifications.
- Observe field project sites and coordinate construction of
proposed projects with the Construction Group and Operations
Department.
- Perform special projects as directed.Required Knowledge, Skills
& Abilities
- Technical knowledge of principles and practices of civil
engineering.
- General knowledge of applicable regulatory codes, standards,
and methods governing the design, construction, and operation of
investor owned water utilities.
- Working knowledge with computer-aided design software.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal
skills are required.Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (from an accredited school) or equivalent in
Civil Engineering or an approved related field.
- Position requires California State Registration as a
Professional Civil Engineer.
- A minimum of two years of Professional Engineering work
experience related to water or wastewater systems and
facilities.
- A Master's Degree in Engineering, Business, or Public
Administration is desirable.Other RequirementsMust possess a valid
California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving
