Full Time78256BRJob SummaryThe Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology is seeking a seasoned, experienced research administrator to join our team and contribute to new and ongoing projects. As a research administrator, you will be a key member in a dynamic team of faculty and staff. You should be an accomplished financial analyst, independent self-starter, creative problem solver, a hard worker, have excellent attention to detail, and thrive in environments with high organizational complexity. In this role, you will independently develop and/or oversee research proposals, awards, and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintain contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. You'll work on awards of diverse scope, including awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards. You will analyze complex financial data and will serve as a team expert on the institution's financial regulations. You will complete and approve transactions for signature by your manager or other authorized institutional official. You will work in partnership with faculty and other team members to manage funds and develop sustainable business plans and cost/revenue models to support research activities. As one of the senior research administrators on the team, you will also guide less experienced staff. Enabling leadership and professional development opportunities is central to our culture. Candidates will have opportunities to lead projects and will work with their supervisor to create a tailored professional development plan to further their career goals.Department DescriptionThe Department of Medicine (DOM), the largest department in the School of Medicine, has close to 600 full-time faculty leading top-notch research, clinical, and education programs. The Department has a decentralized organizational structure across four sites (Parnassus, ZSFG, VAMC and Mt. Zion) and 38 divisions. Authority and accountability for the Department rests with the Department Chair who heads the Parnassus and Mt. Zion sites, and also directs the Vice Chairs at the ZSFG and VAMC sites. The Division of Gastroenterology is a large subspecialty division in the Department of Medicine. Divisional activities include patient care, teaching, and research at the UCSF Parnassus Medical Center as well as the Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, ZSFG, and VAMC affiliated campus sites. The GI Division at the Parnassus campus has a total of 125 personnel, including 44 full time faculty, 26 fellows, 9 administrative support staff, and 53 research personnel, 4 volunteer clinical professors, teaching includes two ACGME accredited fellowship programs as well as two Non-ACGME fellowship training programs, including Gastroenterology (21) and Advanced Liver Transplantation (3) as well as Advanced Endoscopy (1) and IBD (1), and annual fiscal expenditures of -$26.5M.Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and three or more years of relevant experience; and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsors guidelines.Preferred Qualifications
    • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
